Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a lifelong condition that affects how a person communicates, interacts with others, and experiences the world around them. Because autism is a spectrum, every autistic person is different, with their own strengths, abilities, and support needs. Some people may need significant assistance in daily life, while others live independently and may excel in areas such as problem-solving, creativity, or attention to detail.

People with autism can face challenges with social communication, understanding non-verbal cues, coping with changes in routine, and managing sensory sensitivities such as bright lights, loud noises, or certain textures. These difficulties can affect everyday activities, education, work, and relationships. However, with the right support, understanding, and acceptance, autistic people can develop their skills, achieve their goals, and lead fulfilling lives. Recognising and respecting individual differences is key to creating a more inclusive community.
